CRESTED CARACARA
 |
While in the LRGV in Texas, a friend showed me a video clip of a Caracara from Laguna Atascosa. The Bird marched right up to a Javelina carcass, and ousted the three Black Vultures that were feeding upon it. He held the trio at bay until he had his fill, then left. Caracara's must be the Godfather of all scavengers...
Another excellent example of using your vehicle to get closer. Had I hopped out and shot at the Bird wildly, he would have flown off and so would any chance of getting a decent shot. Arashi Beach, Aruba, NA. October-2003. CP-4500, EagleEye5X OpticZoom lens.
The rock he is perched upon must be a favorite vantage. It was covered in wash. Arashi Beach, Aruba, NA. October-2003. CP-4500, EagleEye5X OpticZoom lens.
The radio tower looms behind, and just to the right a bit is the California Lighthouse...unfortunately I cropped it out! Arashi Beach, Aruba, NA. October-2003. CP-4500, EagleEye5X OpticZoom lens.
