COOPER'S HAWK

ornamental

I still need to work on field seperation of Cooper's Hawk from Sharp-shinned Hawk. Each year, I get closer to my goal of conquering this ID dilemma...

Using my car as a blind, I was able to drive right up to this Bird who had his eye on an unsuspecting Pigeon flock. January-2006. Fulton, NY. Canon EOS-10D, EF 100-400mm F4.5-5.6L IS USM Lens. Speedlight 580 EX. ISO 100, ETTL and Evaluative metering.

I followed along behind this immature Bird as it flew into each Cottonwood tree. I got the impression he wasn't hungry, but enjoyed stirring up the smaller Birds..? Sweetwater Wetlands. Tucson, Az. USA. February-2004. Canon EOS-10D, EF 100-400mm F4.5-5.6L IS USM Lens. ISO 200, Evaluative metering.

This was the first shot taken with my homerigged mock DCA-type adapter. It was late in the day and was very cloudy, the shot was taken from INSIDE my house through the glass of my french doors at a distance of 125-150 feet away from the Hawk. Looks very promising? Camillus, NY. November-2004. Swaro ST-80 HD scope and Nikon CP-4500 with mock DCA-type Adapter. ISO 200.
