This Bird is currently the target of persecution in NY State. After the myth that Cormorants were depleting sportfish populations gained a loud enough voice, the NY State DEC began a program to cull the Bird's numbers by oiling eggs at known nesting locations. Further propaganda painting Cormorants as a nuisance species is still being offered as fact by fisherman, as well as DEC officials. The scientific facts regarding the type and size of fish the Cormorants prey upon are being wholly ignored.
