WEDGE-TAILED SHEARWATER

‘UA’U KANI are common nesters on the coasts of the main Islands. The pair will excavate burrows using their bill and feet.

The sign at the Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge says it all. Note the burrow in the lower right of the pic. Photo by Cynthia Victoria. CP-4500 camera at full auto, mountain mode.

I never saw a ‘Wedgie’ on dry land, only the burrows. It was too early for them to start nesting. I was very pleased to photograph this sole individual from the top deck of the Blue Dolphin’s Catamaran! Off the shore of Hanapepe. Kaua’i, HI. USA. March-2004.
